Kings Barber Program Description & Core Outcomes
The purpose of the program is to provide a quality and accessible education that will allow students to ultimately become licensed barbers in accordance with state requirements. Those who complete the program have employment opportunities as barbers, platform artists, small business owners, freelance agents, media ambassadors, product developers, education, and more.
Completing this course will fulfil the curriculum and hour requirements, grant the accompanying certificate of completion and be eligible to take the required exams and become licensed barbers in New Mexico.

Regular Full time
This program is offered as a Monday through Friday class that is 8 hours per day with an online component of 1-2 hours per day. Class scheduling is flexible so that students can enroll for two different time slots to complete the hours they need. Weekend class is held for regular students on a as needed basis. This program from start to finish takes approximately 24 weeks to complete.
Part Time
Part time enrollment places an emphasis on flexibility while pursuing licensure. Offered to all interested, this is a Monday through Friday class 4 hours per day with an online component of 5 hours per week. Students choose the class they want to attend from the three choices Monday through Friday and weekends are held on a as needed basis.
This program from start to finish takes approximately 48 weeks to complete.
Accelerated
Designed to help those who have non-reciprocity licenses, barbers from other countries, and those who have demonstrated experience gain licensure.
This program is accelerated and requires those who are interested to show that they already possess advanced technical skills and a firm grasp on multiple theory topics prior to admittance.
This class is Monday through Saturday 8 hours per day with 12 hours per week of online curriculum and requires staff approval before admission.

Barber License Requirements
The NM Regulation and Licensing Department Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists sets curriculum and program length standards that must be adhered to in order to be eligible to become licensed barbers in the state of New Mexico. The NMRLD Mandated Hour Requirement is 1200 hours, and that is exactly how mnay hours Kings Barber College provides.
Barber Course Completion Requirements
Before receiving documentation from the school of satisfactory completion, the student must achieve an 85% or higher GPA, complete all clock hour requirements, and have paid in full their tuition, fees, and all associated charges owed to the school. Students will know at any time what their grade point average is through the course and be made aware via email each month of their account balance due.
Mock Exams
Once students have completed the course, mock exams will be held for students that are about to perform their final state exams. The mock exams include a comprehensive theory exam and a hands-on practical that will include a detailed write up of strengths and opportunities for each student. Attendance of mock exam is not mandatory, but it is highly encouraged that all students attend.

The school will enroll all students in mock exams by default, students who do not want to attend are asked to speak with their instructor.
Standards of Progress for Online Work
Students that are full and part time will be assigned online homework published each Sunday on the course website for the upcoming week. Students are able to view what hour requirement they are required to fulfill and the assignments that they must complete for the upcoming week and may begin working towards completion ahead of time if they choose. The online portion of the class is particularly important for success in the program and the standards are as follows:
- Student enrolls into class and is given a curriculum that shows a weekly schedule starting on Sunday through the following Sunday.
- Assignments and hours are due the following Sunday at midnight. Students may manage their hours/assignments as needed (work ahead days/take day off) as long as the Sunday deadline is met.
- Late students will be given alternative makeup work/hours specific to theory missed that must be completed by the following Sunday for 75% assignment credit 100% hours credit.
- If deadline is not met student receives 0 credit for assignment and hours missed, must make up hours in person prior to graduation, in person meeting with school director is held to discuss.

After Completing The Course
After satisfactory completion of the 1200-hour program, students can then schedule the national written, national practical, and state law written exams that are required for licensure. There are 3 different exams that must be passed with a minimum score of 75 percent for each considered passing, exams must be taken and passed within 1 year of completing the program.
- Practical exam through NIC.
- Theory exam through PSI.
- State law written jurisprudence exam.
After successful completion of the exam, students will be provided the documentation and fees needed to be paid and may be issued their license and hold the right and privilege to use the initials R.B. following their surname.
The fees associated with final licensing are subject to change that we reference prior to course completion, these fees are not determined by or received from the school and are required to be paid by the student. Passport sized color photos for attaching to the board license will be given to students free of charge by the school.
Crossover Program Description and Core Outcomes
Currently licensed cosmetologists who are interested in becoming licensed barbers can attend the 150-hr. crossover program to gain additional skills and licensure. Upon successful completion of the required curriculum, attendance, and practical examination will be qualified as licensed barbers.

Students seeking to enter the program can enroll at any time due to our asynchronous class curriculum.
The crossover program is offered as a hybrid course. The majority of the instruction is taught and practiced in person, but students will also be responsible for online coursework.
The program offers two full time and three part time sessions per day Monday - Friday. This allows students the ability to work toward their barber license while having the flexibility to take care of other life needs.
